Handel Messiah Live Concert Recording

Queen’s College Oxford, Owen Rees Conductor

Handel Messiah Live Concert, performed by Queen’s College Oxford, Academy of Ancient Music, with Owen Rees as Conductor. This was a live concert in a venue which was full to the brim of audience and totally sold out. The stage was full of musicians including choir, orchestra and soloists. The audience surrounded the stage 360’ so positioning cameras within the audience was a challenge.

The Brief

Film the concert with a more interesting look than just simple concert capture (a local video firm could have done that). Client very interested in cinematic lenses and the look that could create. We were brought in to bring an extra level of interest to the film and to the watcher listener. CD quality audio expected throughout.

The Approach

Close discussion with venue about what was allowed. Camera positions and cables routes discussed in great detail and only with permission of the hall duty manager. The building is a Wren Grade I listed building so respect and care was taken throughout. Cinema grade cameras and lenses used to create more interesting look.

The Outcome

Film released for free on YouTube.
“Wonderful and it brought tears to my eyes”
“This is one of the best performances of Messiah I have ever heard”
“Absolutely fantastic. Over two hours of heavenly bliss”
